Would You Join the Occupy Wall St Movement?

Would you join the Occupy Wall St movement? All across the world protests are appearing with marches, rallies, and other meetings taking place. People are beginning to organize perhaps the biggest protest movement since the 1960s which has been inspired by the Arab spring. The root of these protests are of course the global financial catastrophe that is unfolding each and every day under our very eyes. People choose to ignore it or just don't understand it but the problem is still there. Countries can no longer function under mountains of debt and we the people are suffering because of it. The banks, corporations, and government are all tied together in one rotten scheme under the monetary system. Instead of putting the criminals in jail who brought us this mess in the first place we give them raises, pensions and pat them on the back.

Time For Change

For too long our planet has been mismanaged all in the name of profit. Wealth and prosperity is never distributed to where it's needed most. In dozens of countries around the world the chance of leading a good life is close to non existent. Poverty, war, crime, lack of education, and other problems plague our so called advanced civilization. Under the umbrella of all this suffering a few elite people enjoy all that this world has to offer. Instead of making life better for everyone and growing as a species we instead turn to our corrupt money system to solve the problems for us. This system never solves any problems it just makes them worse and funnels all the money back into the hands of the rich. Now as the system collapses in the developed world people are finally waking up and seeing what we in fact live under.

The Good Life

To support our so called "good life" we manufacture our goods in far off lands. This way the abuse, child labour, sweat shops, and whatever other scheme a corporation can pull off stays hidden. These new shiny goods then come back to us and we consume so we fell happy, at least for a while. Then when the novelty wears off the corporations scramble to make the next best thing and keep you the consumer spending whatever money you make under the slavery system. Instead of making what we actually need we make things all in the name of profit. We exploit people, drain your pocketbook and bring you the next best thing because you really do need it. This huge waste of resources contributes to the decay of our planet as we throw away what we have to get the next best thing. As we keep ourselves in a cycle of endless spending to feel happy, the financial dictators keep themselves rich and the population under their control.

Money Corrupts

It's the money system itself where 1% controls all the wealth that is at the heart of all our problems on planet earth. If would be nice if we could take everyone up above the atmosphere so they could see this magnificent planet below them. Then we would all realize just how much money is destroying our world. We choose to destroy it for profit instead of making it into a tool for global prosperity. Maybe we should just eliminate it all together and work on a new system.

Occupy For Change

The Occupy Movement isn't a bunch of hippies who need a shower it's real people who see the financial system for the corrupt entity it truly is. Reward the rich even when then do wrong because they are "too big to fail." Occupy is a great chance to say "we will not be silent and follow you into the abyss." Our children and our planet deserve a better future.

I have an article on http://silverlining5@hubpages.com, called Wallstreet & Pharma=The Death of This Country. If you choose to read it, please scroll way to the bottom and you will see a T-shirt for sale that promotes the Wallstreet Protests. It is pretty awesome and some of you may be interested, some may not but this is for those who are interested. I hope you don't take this as me promoting my site. I do alot of work on my site so alot of my traffic is starting to come from outside hubpages. I do appreciate very much those from hubpages that continue coming by though. I also try to read as many hubs as I can. This might be wrong but I decided to bite the bullet. ssshhhiiiivvveerrrrrrrr!!! I am now bracing for some hate retorts. lol

QC, your analysis is right on and your fire is felt through the writing. The ones responsible will be brought to task sooner or later, the world cannot survive this onslaught from the elite any longer. There are 7 billion of us now and things must change or it will explode. Violence is the tool of the money bosses, War and pillaging of the earth are their aims, we must do better than this. Our children and grandchildren will not survive if this continues. Great writing and a great plea, now's the time,

Corruption in our government is indeed rampant. And big business is in bed with that corrupt government. And the military-industrial complex is a huge part of that.

The reason for this is that government has too much power.

Money = power. Government controls these vast amounts of money in 4 ways.

1. Fascism - nominally private companies compete for political favors rather than competing to satisfy willing customers. Solyndra. Halliburton. GE. Big banks. Farm subsidies. United Healthcare. Etc. They get direct subsidies, buy laws to limit their competition, buy laws that limit their liability (75 Mil MAX liability for an oil spill?! Uh, WHY? Because they bought it.) It is vital to remember that this is ALL enabled by government selling itself. ALL of it is illegal and unConstitutional. Government simply ignores its own contract with the people. And they get bribes, kickbacks, contributions, and BS payoff jobs in those businesses.

2. Socialism - direct taxation and redistribution of wealth. Government confiscates huge amounts of money and simply hands it out to its political friends.

3. Borrowing - Government borrows unbelievable amounts of money and simply obligates tazpayers to repay it.

4. Counterfeiting via the Federal Reserve - Government steals the value of your dollars by quietly printing trillions of dollars. If you printed a few grand in your basement, they'd land on you with four feet. But they do it on a MASSIVE scale and call it "monetary policy." It is THEFT, pure and simple. Printing dollars steals from the value of all existing dollars.

I completely agree with the outrage of the Occupy Wall Street protesters. Good for them in showing their outrage. I may join them.

However, SOME of the protesters have fallen into the two-party trap. They are right about the symptom (the economy) and they are right that corporations are in bed with government. They are right that we are oppressed by an oligarchy.

But the solution is for the people to truly seize power. However, having a movement of people win elections that grant government MORE power over individuals is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the solution.

As long as government controls so much money, it will be bought and paid for, and a small group will enslave us all more and more. The real solution is to take away the control of money from the government. The solution is to MASSIVELY strip away government budgets. And repeal most of the federal laws, returning to the Constitution as written. We must stop all our wars of empire and bring the troops home, and cut the military budget down to 1/3 or less of what it is. (BTW, this will make us MORE secure, not less, in the world. Everyone wants to see us fall because we are propping up dictators, meddling in their internal affairs, and bombing their people. It's an absolute crime both against those people and against our soldiers, who have bravely and patriotically surrendered their rights to make decisions about foreign policy.)

Doing these things is the ONLY answer, for it will eliminate the fundamental cause of our corrupt government: namely, that there is so much money to be had by having power. When government controls, directly and indirectly, half the economy or more, you WILL HAVE it bought off and you WILL HAVE an oligarchy.

When the people control 95+ percent of their own money, there simply isn't nearly as much to be gained by getting control of the federal government.

It's like East Berlin. In the horrible police state, people were always going to get out. Even risking death to do it. Because so much was at stake. The solution wasn't more barbed wire and guns. It was to create a free society that people had no reason to flee.

Movements to revise taxation to confiscate more wealth from the wealthiest 1%, 2%, whatever are doomed to failure. Don't get me wrong, the crooks in government and their cronies deserve not only to have their wealth confiscated, but also to go to jail in many instances.

But increasing tax rates won't solve the problem. It will make it worse. Because the fundamental problem is government controls too much, and thus is WORTH CORRUPTING. The solution is to shrink government to its contractual size and power, as defined by the letter of the Constitution. Then, the motivation for corrupting government shrinks massively, and the people really have power again.

Put another way, if you are one of the little people, who is rightfully angry at corruption in DC and business, you need to AVOID the two-party trap. AVOID falling for the false dichotomy that Team D and Team R are somehow different. Both major parties are for massive government that controls all the money. They NEED to divide the people into two camps that falsely believe one party represents our interests.

The traditional voter for Team D and the traditional voter for Team R need to recognize they have been duped, join together, and vote for independents and libertarians who will RADICALLY SHRINK government, shrink the budget it controls, shrink the taxes it collects, and repeal the laws it uses to indirectly control money.

The Tea Party movement has plenty of honest citizens who want this. And it also has crooked establishment hacks who want to claim it for themselves.

Likewise, the Occupy Wall St. movement has pleny of honest citizens who want to end government and business corruption and cronyism. It also has some people who want to co-opt those honest people, duping them into supporting a government that controls even more money.

The answer to the problem is REAL CAPITALISM, where the people own their own money and businesses can't make a buck unless they please customers at competitive prices. What we have now is NOT that. What we have is a little bit of ever-dying capitalism mixed with a bunch of growing fascism and socialism and a Federal Reserve banking cartel.

Stop letting the two parties divide us!! Stop letting them control the money!! Take the money and power away from government!! Don't get suckered into calls to create a newer, bigger government cop that collects more money in taxes and hands it out to friends. Don't get suckered into a newer, bigger government cop that has more authority to pick crony-winners in the unfree market. These things will only make the problem worse.

The ONLY way to get rid of corruption and cronyist fascism and socialism is to take the money, and the control of money, back from the government.

Great hub! This Movement is only gaining momentum and will soon become a juggernaut that will smash through the walls of corporate lobbyists and Wall Street speculators!

JustMC Level 1 Commenter 6 months ago

swquarles, I hope you are right. But it can only succeed in doing so if it focuses on returning power to the people. And the ONLY way to return power to the people is to take that power back away from government. Wall St is in bed with two largely corrupt political parties that control half the economy by force. Adding new "regulatory" powers to government won't help. That will mean government will control even more than it already does, ADDING incentive to buy it off.

The only things that will help are:

-radically shrinking the pool of dollars government directly controls (spending) and

-radically shrinking the pool of dollars they control by influence (regulation) and

-radically shrinking the pool of dollars they counterfeit each year (the Fed).

If this is done, the motivation to be corrupt dries up. Who wants to buy off a politician who lacks the power to grant favors to cronies. When the people, as individuals, personally control 90 percent or more of what they earn, government can't sell them out and no one has the huge motivation to buy influence. But as long as the government controls the money, it will be worth buying them off, and they will sell out.

Hello, QualityContent,

I admire and respect you because you are a person who is deeply concerned about the well-being of our planet and all of its inhabitants.

However, I am one of those people who always sees things in real terms rather than ideal ones. That said, it is my opinion that this world has always been a very rotten place and nothing more than a valley of tears.

Based on the way I see things, this realm will not be a good place in which to exist until Kingdom Comes.
